Ironman SA bike course … a truly beautiful beast. You will be hard pressed to find a more demanding course. Great early season test of where I am at.

Going into the run I had big plans of running a su

Going into the run I had big plans of running a sub 2:40 marathon. All my training indicated it was possible and after a 2:41 in 2022 I was confident it could be done.
Unfortunately my fellow competitors had other plans and decided to bike my legs off. Early into the bike I knew we were burning the entire match box and a fast marathon would be a serious stretch.
I pulled on my @pumasouthafrica Fast-R Elite’s and went out steady. At first I was optimistic and went through the half marathon in 1:18ish (too fast!) running around 3:45/km. It felt sustainable until the effort of the bike began to take its toll. After a short bathroom pit stop I went into damage control and started thinking of that IM WC slot.
Crossing the line in second with a 2:47 run split I had some mixed emotions. Proud to overcome a race dynamic which seriously did not favor my strengths but slightly disappointed not to push Leon a little harder for that win. My second 2nd place finish at the African Championships, guess I will just have to come back and try again!

Pic 1 - Absolutely burying myself to close the gap to @mattytrautman and @l.chevalier up the only real climb on this course…
Pic 2 - The TP file of said climb. 4mins over 6watts per kilogram is not the best stimulus mid IM 🥴 Had no choice, had to get back on!
Pic 3 - Full ride details. Suffered in the final hour and decided to try and save something for the marathon.
Overall my best biking performance to date. Really proud to be inching my way closer to the best riders in our game. Really great having @cjwurf @l.chevalier and @mattytrautman as a true benchmark test on a seriously tough IM course. Great signs of things to come.
Special mention to @mike_posthumus from @science2sport for all the hard work behind the scenes getting me to this point. Heading to my favourite terrain for IM WC 🙌🏼 see you all in mountains of Nice, France 🫡

2nd (again) at the Ironman African Championships …
Despite missing that top step I am super proud of this race! After a shortened swim (again!) the tables really turned against me and it took everything I had to stay in the race. As expected @cjwurf took off early, I yo-yo’d all day off the back of Uber bikers @l.chevalier and @mattytrautman … surprisingly Cam was not getting away and we held him within a minute for most of the day. I really paid for the first 3hrs riding above my 70.3 power and had to let Leon go after Matt suffered a seriously unlucky mechanical (no doubt he would have been on the podium, gutted for him). Off the bike in 3rd I found some good running legs early on and was optimistic about running the front of the race down. However, @l.chevalier was just to strong and closed out for a very impressive win. I made it up to second and was so relieved to cross that finish line after a brutal day out. @mathiastri ran strong to close out the podium in 3rd.
A massive shout out to the crowds here in PE!!! It blows my mind every time I do this event and I am just so thankful to each and every person shouting my name and encouraging me to dig deep! Hands down the best supported race on the Ironman tour 🙌🏼🇿🇦

Delivery could not have come at a more perfect time 🙌🏼
@deboerwetsuits will be my swim wear partner moving forward and I am completely speechless. The Fjord 3.0 has brought a level of excitement I have never experienced for swimming. It honestly feels like something from the future. All I can say is thank you to everyone involved in designing this masterpiece.

@puma recently dropped their 5k and 10k specialist shoe … The Puma Fast-FWD Nitro Elite!
I had the opportunity to race in them at this weekends WP Triathlon Championships and happy to say we came out on top 🔥
Amazingly fast shoe and incredibly responsive after impact, I loved every step.

Big few days on the legs … so far 62km in 3 days, almost every step with @jamie__riddle until he decided to drop me on the final 400 of this session 🤷🏻‍♂️
Form is building nicely and getting more excited about a March Ironman!
@pumasouthafrica FAST-R Nitro Elite helping to cushion the impact … I have been very impressed with how much extra volume I can tolerate using these shoes!

2023 XTERRA SA Champ
Dropping into 2023 the best way possible … on my Anthem! Simply loved every minute of this race. Back to my routes where this wonderful triathlon journey began for me. Half way through the bike leg I already started strategizing when I could get to the next Xterra race 🤔 Let me know your suggestions below 👇🏻
Thanks to everyone who played their part to bring this race back to Grabouw, I am excited to watch it grow!
